The chai perspective
Keep the little joys. Understand the bigger picture.
Your monthly little-joy budget
A budget should make room for the life you want to live, too.
For illustration only. Read the assumptions below for the full picture.
Understand your result.
Put small everyday spending in perspective by comparing a recurring treat with a larger savings goal. The result shows the scale of the decision, without prescribing what you should give up.
Years of skipping every treat assumes no investment growth or inflation. It is a comparison of spending amounts, not a complete savings plan.
A worked example.
Using this calculator’s default inputs, your monthly little-joy budget is ₹2,500. This is an illustration of the stated formula, not a forecast.

| Cost of your daily treat | ₹100 |

| Treats each month | 25 times |
| Your savings goal | ₹10,00,000 |
A common mistake to avoid
Blaming every unmet goal on small pleasures while overlooking large recurring commitments.
Questions you might have.
Does this suggest stopping daily chai or coffee?
No. It helps you decide consciously where enjoyment fits in your own budget.
Can the saved money earn returns?
Potentially, but returns are excluded here. Use a savings or investment calculator for that separate scenario.

How we calculate it
Monthly treat spending = cost × frequency. Years to goal = goal ÷ annual treat spending, if you saved every rupee of it.
Assumptions & things to know
A perspective tool, not a suggestion to cut every small pleasure. No investment growth or inflation. Big decisions and recurring commitments matter too.
