Estimates, not promises. Explore different scenarios.

Understand your result.

Estimate gross regular and overtime pay from an hourly rate, a pay-period hour total and an agreed multiplier. Time-and-a-half and double time are mathematical scenarios.

The premium above regular pay is separate from total overtime pay. Confirm the actual eligibility, thresholds and rate applicable to your employment.

A worked example.

A common mistake to avoid

Assuming a US-style time-and-a-half rule is a universal Indian entitlement.

Questions you might have.

Can I use double time?

Yes. Enter a multiplier of 2. The correct contractual or statutory rate must be checked separately.

Are payroll deductions included?

No. The result is gross pay before tax, PF and other deductions.

How we calculate it

Overtime hourly rate = regular hourly pay × multiplier. Total gross pay = regular hours × regular rate + overtime hours × overtime rate.

Assumptions & things to know

Arithmetic only, before tax, PF and other deductions. Time-and-a-half is a general scenario, not a default legal entitlement in India. Applicable overtime eligibility, thresholds and multipliers depend on the law, state, sector and contract. Regular and overtime hours must not overlap.
