A common mistake to avoid

Assuming every instalment earns interest for the full deposit term.

Questions you might have.

When is each instalment assumed?

At the beginning of each month. Later instalments have less time to earn interest than the first.

Are missed-instalment penalties included?

No. The model assumes all contributions are made as planned, with no fees or tax deducted.

How we calculate it

Monthly effective rate = (1 + annual rate ÷ 4)^(1/3) − 1. Beginning-of-month deposits accumulate at this monthly equivalent of quarterly compounding.

Assumptions & things to know

Quarterly-compounded RD approximation. Bank day-count conventions and instalment dates may change the exact maturity value. Before TDS and income tax; no missed payments.
