Estimates, not promises. Explore different scenarios.

Understand your result.

Explore a financial independence target from household spending and an assumed withdrawal rate. The model compares future portfolio growth with a target that rises with the inflation assumption.

The target in today’s rupees and the future target are different. Higher future expenses can move the finish line even while the portfolio grows.

A common mistake to avoid

Treating a chosen withdrawal percentage as a guaranteed safe rate for India.

Questions you might have.

Does the target include one-off costs?

No. Add a separate allowance for major medical, education, housing or other costs not reflected in regular monthly expenses.

What does beyond 60 years mean?

The portfolio does not reach the modelled target within the search horizon. Review spending, contributions and assumptions rather than interpreting it as a forecast.

How we calculate it

Today’s target = annual expenses ÷ withdrawal rate. For each future year, inflate expenses and project the portfolio with monthly contributions, then test whether the portfolio reaches that year’s target.

Assumptions & things to know

Assumes constant contributions, returns, inflation and withdrawal rate. The chosen withdrawal rate is a planning assumption, not a safe guarantee for India. No tax, fees, pension or major one-off spending included.
