Understand your result.
Explore the future cost of a purchase and the purchasing power of a fixed rupee amount. The rate is an editable scenario for your own spending basket.
A future cost estimate and future purchasing power answer different questions. One tells you what the purchase might cost; the other tells you what a fixed amount might buy.
A worked example.
Using this calculator’s default inputs, future cost of the same purchase is ₹3,20,714. This is an illustration of the stated formula, not a forecast.

A common mistake to avoid
Treating one inflation assumption as equally appropriate for food, education, healthcare and housing.
Questions you might have.
Is the rate a forecast?
No. It is a constant assumption you choose, not a prediction or a live economic data feed.
Can I use it with a savings goal?
Yes. The Savings Goal tool combines goal-cost inflation with investment assumptions in one calculation.

How we calculate it
Future cost = today’s cost × (1+inflation)^years. Purchasing power = today’s amount ÷ (1+inflation)^years.
Assumptions & things to know
Constant inflation is a scenario, not a forecast. Your personal basket can differ from headline inflation.
